Most burglaries at homes can be prevented. If someone takes the right steps and measures usually such unfortunate incidents can be avoided and prevented. It is important to be conscious of the people you let into your home and also of the way you interact with other people in your neighborhood. Always know exactly who stays in your neighborhood and be weary of unknown individuals. It is good to have strong bonds with your neighbors in case a threat arises to the safety of the neighborhood community from burglars and thieves. Be alert to see if suspicious characters are roaming about snooping around not doing anything positive. Feel free to call the police if you see such characters, it is always good to report unwanted and dangerous elements to the police before they actually commit any crimes. If all people where to maintain such a standard of alertness, then the rat of crime would decrease and the law and order situation would be better. Every person should play an active role in keeping the neighborhood safe and secure.

Often times sales persons go door to door trying to sell products of their companies. Many times these people are not sales persons but thieves gathering information about the homes they plan to rob! Whenever a salesman comes to your door, ensure you do not let him/her into your home before doing a proper check of their identification etc. Make sure also that you have a good look at their face in case of identification purposes in the future in case of a crime.

When you speak to the salesmen/saleswomen try and be as conscious as possible of the topics being discussed. Do not unknowingly divulge too many details about your income and expensive possessions to the sales people. They might be burglars, and if you tell them what you have, you will be exciting them about robbing your house. Often thieves dress up as door-to-door salesmen and gather information about houses in a neighborhood. Remember also not to give away any details about any of your other neighbors.

It is a good idea to have an electronic anti-burglary system installed in your house fitted with alarms and police notification systems. When you speak to the sales people, be sure to mention that you have an electronic anti-burglary system in place. It will deter the thieves from attacking your home.
